In Sweden, we have many days were we celebrate different food. For example the Fat Tueday (Fettisdagen), is when we eat a semla (below), and this year we celebrate it the 16th of February. A few decades ago, if you wanted to upset the Swedes you would eat a semla weeks before the actual date (just like I did yesterday). There were even people who wanted to forbid bakeries to sell these buns before the actual date it was celebrated (the date changes every year)! It still upsets some today… But I just cannot help myself (like most people, I guess).
Anyway, the semla is simply a bun with whipped cream and almond paste. January isn’t over yet but I’ve already managed to eat three of these. You can’t stop me.
